Arts Degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from The University
of Colorado at Boulder where she studied with the late Dr. Barbara
Doscher. Dr. Nix has held voice faculty positions at Texas Tech
University in Lubbock and at The University of Colorado at Denver. She is currently serving as Adjunct Professor of Voice at University of Texas at San Antonio.

credits include Elijah, Messiah, Gloria
(Vivaldi), Stabat Mater (Pergolesi), Messe Solennelle-St.
Cecilia (Gounod), Vesperae Solennes de Confessore
(Mozart), A German Requiem (Brahms), and many other works.
She has recently appeared as a guest soloist with Musical Bridges
Around the World, the San Antonio Choral Society, the Youth Orchestra
of San Antonio, the Colorado Music Festival, the Littleton Symphony,
the Westminster Symphony, the Timberline Symphony, the Longmont
Chorale, and the Boulder Chorale. Dr. Nix has presented recitals
and master classes in universities across the country. Her operatic
credits include Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Gretel
in Hansel and Gretel, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi,
and Angelina in Trial by Jury. She currently resides and
teaches in the Helotes/San Antonio area.

Biographical Data
Catherine Nix was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Upon moving to Florida,
she began her musical education at the University of North Florida
in Jacksonville where she graduated magna um laude. Her education
continued at Florida State University in Tallahassee where she studied
voice with Janice Harsanyi and Yvonne Ciannella. Under the direction
of Lincoln Clark, Catherine performed the operatic roles of Lauretta
in Gianni Schicchi and Angelina in Trial by Jury.
As part of the South Georgia Opera program, she performed Gretel
in Hansel and Gretel for audiences throughout northern
Florida and southern Georgia. With Bachelors and Masters degrees
already in hand, Catherine’s pedagogical and performance studies
were completed at the University of Colorado at Boulder where she
earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. She studied voice under
the late Dr. Barbara Doscher, an internationally recognized pedagogue
and the author of The Functional Unity of the Singing Voice.
During her stay in Boulder, Catherine performed Susanna in The
Marriage of Figaro and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel.
She was a member of the Lyric Theatre Singers, a dynamic outreach
performance ensemble. She continues to perform as a soloist with
local and regional symphony orchestras and choruses. Dr. Nix has
always been active in liturgical music and is in demand as a workshop
clinician. She has worked with church musicians in Florida, New
Mexico and Colorado, and she specializes in the ministry of the
Catholic cantor. Dr. Nix is the author of A Sourcebook for Catholic
Cantors, and she recently held the position of Director of Music at Nativity
of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield, Colorado.
